Pablo Almaraz

I have a BSc. and a PhD. in Marine Sciences and Technologies, and a MSc. in Mathematics. As for the science, I will just say I work in the intersection between mathematics and ecology. I’ve always been interested in epistemology, and will increasingly deal with it in the future.

This has been one long journey for me. I started up as a wannabe biologist, although I didn’t finish the BSc. I went through harsh times. On the way to where I am today, I have worked as a bicycle mechanic (still am), as a sommelier (nowadays only for close friends and on rare occasions), and I had a baby stroller business. Now I just drink the best coffee I can (probably from Ethiopia), read philosophy, sit down and watch birds, and ride my bikes.

When I was a kid, science was for me essentially birdwatching. It still is. Mathematics, statistics and all the accessory paraphernalia came later. The taste of wonder for me is to be lying on the green grass being flown over by nightjars. Fitting bayesian state-space models through SMC2 is just funny.

Here you will not see a picture of me, but that of a tiny juvenile chameleon (Chamaeleo chamaeleon), one of the many that wildly thrive in my backyard. There’s no point in seeing me when you can see this wonderful animal.

I’d rather be a chameleon than me. I live in paradise.
